Jeremy N. Grimshaw Receives Young Scholar Award

At the 2012 Annual University Conference, Jeremy N. Grimshaw, professor in the School of Music, was honored with the Young Scholar Award. The Young Scholar Award encourages and acknowledges outstanding promise and contributions by faculty members in the early stages of their academic careers.

Dr. Grimshaw received his Ph.D. in musicology, and a Certificate in World Music from the Eastman School of Music. He performs, researches, and teaches various kinds of music, with an emphases in American experimental music and Balinese gamelan. He directs Gamelan Bintang Wahyu, BYU's Balinese percussion orchestra, coordinates world music activities and events in the School of Music, and currently chairs the Oscarson Music Lecture Series. He is the author of two books, The Island of Bali is Littered with Prayers (Mormon Artists Group, 2010), and Draw a Straight Line and Follow It: The Music and Mysticism of La Monte Young (Oxford University Press, 2011), as well as numerous articles in various scholarly journals and general-audience media.

Jeremy Grimshaw has accomplished much in the early stages of his academic career, and the university looks forward to his future success.
