A program at the National Conference of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) is no ordinary performance for a choir.

“You can think of it like the World Series or Super Bowl of choral singing in the United States,” said BYU Singers director Andrew Crane, who will take the choir to the conference at the end of the month. “It’s truly the highest honor that an American university choir can achieve.”

With around 22,000 members, the ACDA is the largest professional organization of choir directors in the country. The national conference is held every two years, allowing thousands of conductors to come together for classes, workshops, networking opportunities and live performances from top ensembles at every level, from children’s choirs to professional groups.

The BYU Singers — including accompanists Lindsay Bastian and Jacob Hasler — are one of only five mixed ensembles invited to perform an individual program at this year’s Kansas City conference. They were selected through a blind audition process that took in recordings from well over 200 choirs.READ MORE
