Symphony Orchestra Takes the Stage to Perform American Music for Fall Concert

Adding a slice of Americana to your season, the BYU Symphony Orchestra presents American music for concert

On Tuesday, November 2, the Symphony Orchestra will be performing their fall concert. The event will take place in the de Jong Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m. and be directed by conductor Christian Smith.

Smith explained a little more about what audience members might expect. “The Symphony Orchestra will present an evening of American music, with works by Aaron Copland, George Gershwin and Leonard Bernstein.” He continued, “[This will include] music written for the American music theatre [and] American ballet, as well as the concert hall.”

This will not only be an evening of American music; one of BYU’s own will be featured at the concert. The Symphony Orchestra will play former BYU Composer-In-Residence Merrill Bradshaw’s “Four Mountain Sketches.” Smith said, “Bradshaw’s multi-movement composition depicts several prominent mountain peaks in Utah and is full of unique and compelling orchestral colors and musical textures.”

Smith encourages all to attend the concert for a “captivating evening from the American music tradition.”
