THE SPACES BETWEEN | KATELYNN MCKINNON

In a room with black walls and a floor strewn with strands of long hair, visitors are propelled to recall memories of the past. A wall is tiled and houses a mirror and a sink; books abound, stacked on top of one another.

Katelynn McKinnon’s exhibit titled “The Spaces Between” is a place to think back on the memories we have and our relationships with them.

“I wanted this exhibition to bring space to the forgotten within each of us, whether the forgotten is intentional or not; to make a space for the unseen to be seen. I wanted my exhibition to feel nostalgic in an absent sort of way,” McKinnon said.

She continued to paint the picture of what people should experience. “Like you are walking around the books or the black paintings and know that there is information there, but you are still unable to fully access it. With the hair, I wanted to symbolize the part of ourselves that we are no longer connected to, things we have moved past and grown away from,” said McKinnon.
