World of Dance Celebrates 55 Years of Tradition in the Marriott Center

After 55 Years in the de Jong Concert Hall, BYU Department of Dance’s World of Dance To Be Performed in Marriott Center and Off-Campus

BYU’s Department of Dance is excited to open their 2023 season with “World of Dance” on September 21-23. The tradition of bringing together all six of the top performing and touring companies in the Department of Dance for one spectacular show has spanned the past 55 years and continues to be an audience and performer favorite.

Department of Dance Chair Shayla Bott said, “The show is a lot of fun for the audience but also for the students and faculty. Throughout the year, each of our mainstage companies perform, tour and participate in outreach experiences, but have very little opportunity to interact with each other. World of Dance is a great way for audiences and performers alike to connect to different styles of dance.”

Audiences can look forward to a number of pieces performed by BYU’s Theatre Ballet Studio Company, Contemporary Dance Theatre, Living Legends, Ballroom Dance Company, International Folk Dance Ensemble and Young Ambassadors. The performance showcases the tradition, discipline and talent of the dancers involved and gives audiences a taste of one of the most diverse university dance departments in the nation.

Due to the construction of the new arts building, “World of Dance” will be performed for the first time in the Marriott Center and off-campus at the Browning Center at WSU (Ogden, Utah).

Bott said, “[World of Dance] is a great opportunity for audiences to sample the broad variety of dance that the department has to offer. We hope you enjoy this show and then come back again to see the full-length evening performances by any of the six companies.”
