College of Fine Arts and Communications Offers Classical Choirs, Orchestra, Jazz and Folk Music this December
This December, take a break from the hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping and give the gift of concert experience. BYU offers a variety of genres, so there’s something for every music lover in your family.
University Chorale

Both sections of University Chorale will perform for audiences this evening under the direction of BYU choral conducting graduate students.
Symphony Orchestra

“This collection of colorfully conceived rustic melodies expresses a wide array of emotion, from the plaintive, to the humorous, to the celebratory,” says Chris Smith, director of the orchestra. He said the performance will feature “Christmas selections, as well as classical music with Christmas connections,” including Georges Bizet’s “L’Arlesienne Suite No. 2,” and in particular, the” rousing and fiery movement,” Farandole; and Anatol Liadov’s “Eight Russian Folk Songs.”

Andrew Crane, Sonja Poulter, Brent Wells and Nathan Haines conduct this annual concert featuring all four of BYU’s auditioned choirs and BYU philharmonic as they celebrate the season. This year’s performance also debuts BYU’s new 72-stop concert organ.

Gather ‘round the warmth of folk with BYU’s Celtic Ensemble, American Ensemble and Mountain Strings. Ensembles will perform contemporary and traditional Christmas music from around the world as well as secular songs, blues and gospel music. Audiences are encouraged to clap, stomp and sing along.
