Savannah R. Jones Uses Social Media To Create A Music Community
An injury in October 2022 left music student Savannah R. Jones only able to play left-hand-only pieces on the piano. Where other musicians may have despaired, Jones used the experience as a way to connect with other musicians who may be facing similar challenges. “I got to reach out to a lot of musicians who had also been injured,” she said.
Jones has created an online community of musicians through her Instagram @sav.play.piano. She shares videos of her playing from BYU’s practice rooms on what she refers to as her “creative résumé.”
“As piano majors, we spend a lot of time in practice rooms by ourselves,” she said. Her goal is to create a community by posting things such as day-in-the-life-of-a-music-student videos and tips on posture for pianists.
