Bio
Pianist Jihea Hong-Park enjoys a versatile and vibrant career as a performer, educator, and citizen-artist. Her performances have graced prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Seoul Arts Center, Merkin Hall, University of Cambridge, Tokyo College of Music, among others. Passionate about advancing the works of living composers, she has premiered numerous pieces by internationally renowned artists. Her commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration has also inspired groundbreaking projects that weave together music with history, dance, literature, visual art, and East Asian studies.
As an avid researcher, Prof. Hong-Park has shared her insights at numerous conferences including National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy, the College Music Society National Conference, MTNA National Conference, and the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization’s International Arts Symposium. She is also a sought-after keynote and guest speaker at esteemed academic and cultural institutions, including the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Palmetto International Piano Festival, Socially Engaged Musicians Network of Korea, BYU Kennedy Center, UMTA State Conference, and the Youth Orchestra of St. Luke’s in New York City. In 2019, she hosted a series of five New York Philharmonic Young People’s Concerts at David Geffen Hall, Lincoln Center.
Currently, Prof. Hong-Park serves as Associate Professor of Piano at Brigham Young University. Her strong commitment to teaching is reflected by her previous faculty appointment at The Juilliard School’s Extension Division, which she held for fourteen years. During the summers, she serves on the artist-faculty at Brevard Music Center in North Carolina. She earned her B.M. and M.M. degrees from The Juilliard School and pursued postgraduate studies at Teachers College, Columbia University. Upon graduating from Juilliard, she was honored with the William Schuman Commencement Prize, the school’s highest accolade, recognizing her exceptional achievements, leadership, and service to music.
A recipient of the 2024 BYU Faculty Women’s Association Award in Excellence in Creative Works and 2023 Utah Valley Magazine’s Fab40 Award, Prof. Hong-Park lives in Alpine with her husband, Jun, and their three children. She finds joy in supporting her children at their football, basketball, and cheerleading events and delights in binge-watching K-Dramas on Netflix.
