Museums can be filled with anything from ancient statues to modern sculptures. Some even display historical documents, colorful paintings and illuminated texts. The BYU Museum of Art displays art through its semi-permanent and traveling exhibitions. Behind the art displays and interactive elements of exhibits are the museum staff — each member fulfilling unique responsibilities to aid in the acquisition and installation of art. Acquiring art Before art can be displayed at the MOA, it must first be acquired by the museum’s curators. Ashlee Whitaker, the Roy and Carol Christensen curator for religious art, has been in charge of curating a number of art pieces displayed at the museum. Whitaker’s curatorial responsibilities include searching for art to be added to the museum’s collection. “We’re always looking for acquisitions and pieces of art that will enhance our collection and mission as a university art museum,” Whitaker said. Raegan Nelson is a Dance Education major who believes that everyone, if they are able, should dance! "I wish I could shout to the world that no matter what your background is or what you look like, you have every right to be in a classroom and better yourself as a dancer. I remember having doubt about myself as a dancer because I did not have as much training as other dancers or have a typical 'dancer body,' and I wish I would have learned much earlier to let that go. It is never too late to start!"

The Lord always seemed to know when I needed just a small connection to pull me out of my self-centeredness.”

Meet alumni enriching their communities through service

Inside the George H. Brimhall Building on BYU’s campus is a lab that sees 30 students every week. They come on their own time and receive no pay, but they do digital marketing work with organizations like the NBA, Subaru and Google. All because of one man that loves commercials. “In my heart, I love the idea of advertising,” said Y Digital Director Adam Durfee. “I’m one of the few people that like to watch commercials carefully and see what they are all about.” Y Digital is a student-run digital marketing agency sponsored by BYU. By the end of 2020, they have worked with over 35 clients and won numerous awards. But back in 2017, the agency was just an idea on Durfee’s dinner napkin. Phil Bussey had just graduated from the BYU School of Communications when he interned for the Rockey Company in Portland, Oregon. Now, forty years later while serving as a mission president in Spain, Bussey received the 2020 Jay Rockey Lifetime Achievement Award from the Puget Sound Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America for his outstanding work and leadership in the public relations field.
